Otiko Afisa Djaba who was recently relieved of her post as the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister has declined the president’s offer to serve as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy.
She has since communicated her decision to the president as she expects to “relax and enjoy my family”.
Madam Afisah Djaba has also indicated her intention to retire from active politics.
“At 56 years, I want to relax and enjoy my family and life and, therefore, I am not ready to take up the appointment as Ambassador to Italy,” the state-owned Daily Graphic quoted her as saying.
According to her, this would afford her the opportunity to take care of her ex-husband who has been down with stroke for the past six years.
“I cannot abandon him now,” she explained, “I am the one who has been taking care of him since he got sick and I cannot abandon him now.”
Before joining the Akufo-Addo government in February 2017, Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba was the National Women’s Organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party.
