Hours after Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan’s decision to quit the national team due to unresolved issues with captaincy, Ghana is faced with another problem as in-form player Alfred Duncan was ruled out of AFCON 2019 with an ankle injury.
The midfielder, sources say, has had an issue with his ankle all through the season but has managed to work carefully with it.
He endured a knock to the ankle when he played last weekend for his side in a game against AC Milan.
Duncan, off the back of the season, had looked like a sure bet to start for the Black Stars at this AFCON in midfield alongside Mubarak Wakaso and Thomas Partey.
This raises the number of players who will be unavailable for selection for AFCON 2019.
Daniel Amartey, who has been out with an injury since October, Nicholas Opoku, who is still nursing an injury, and now Duncan.
Kwesi Appiah, though, will be looking to put out the best as he tries to end Ghana’s wait for an AFCON trophy.
