Relative calm has returned at Dagombaline Goro, a suburb of Kumasi, after a violent clash claimed two lives last Thursday.
However, some residents especially women and children continue to flee the area for security reasons.
Even though business has slowed down in the area, some residents are going about with their daily activities when the news team visited the area, Monday morning.
The slum looks calm but information gathered indicates that over 80 per cent of the women and children have packed out of the area.
Whilst some have relocated to other places in Kumasi, others have deserted their wooden structures and returned to the north.
Occupants of relics – mostly burnt houses – have also deserted the place for fear of renewed clashes.
“What we want not is peace,” said Iddris Yamusah, a Dagomba resident.
“The security personnel must not take sides when trying to resolve the conflict. We are just pleading with city authorities to allow us occupy the area and we promise to maintain peace. We had to retaliate because we were attacked.”
Two lives were lost whilst several properties were set ablaze in the violent clash, triggered by a disputed parcel of land.
Over 100 people were arrested and presented before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Friday.
The court has remanded the suspects to reappear on Friday, July 19.
