National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama, has settled on former Finance Minister Dr Kwesi Botchwey as his running mate, 3news.com has gathered.
Highly placed sources told 3news.com that the former president will name Dr Botchwey as his vice presidential candidate on January 7, 2020.
That will be the last move in NDC’s forward march to regain power.
The party will on Saturday, August 24 select its parliamentary candidates for the elections.
Dr Botchwey, an astute economist, is expected to join forces with the former president to upend a likely Nana-Bawumia challenge in 2020.
Dr Botchwey served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 1982 – in the PNDC era – to 1995.
He graduated from the University of Ghana after receiving his secondary education at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School.
He also attended Yale Law School as well as University of Michigan, where he received his doctorate degree.
He served as an advisor to the World Bank in 1997.
He has several publications to his credit.
He chaired NDC’s special committee that reviewed the circumstances that led to the party’s loss in the 2016 elections.
The report of his committee has guided the opposition party’s quest to return to power.
