The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for La Nkwantanang-Madina Assembly, Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, has called on pressure groups who chastised government over its failure to complete footbridges along the Adentan-Madina highway to vehemently campaign so that pedestrians use the footbridges now that they are completed.
Residents consistently protested against government over road carnages last year, demanding an immediate completion of footbridges.
They believed the footbridges will help end the pedestrian knockdowns.
Residents intensified the call in November last year, instigating a national concern which forced government to secure funds for construction and completions of the footbridges.
Even though the foot bridges are completed, pedestrians continue to jaywalk.
Recently, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) at the Madina Police Station arrested about 110 pedestrians who failed to use the Madina-Adentan footbridges but this has not deterred pedestrians enough.
Speaking with Onua FM’s Mantam Mpuntuo host Nana Yaw Opare (Wofa) on Tuesday, Ms Dede Adjabeng tasked the protesters to come out strongly and campaign as they did previously so that pedestrians would use the footbridges since they are completed.
“We are doing enough as an assembly to educate the public by respecting traffic regulations but the protesters have to join the campaign,” she said.
“The Assembly will continue to engage the police in arresting recalcitrant pedestrians until they comply with the traffic regulations she insisted.”
