Zoomlion Ghana Limited has begun fumigating and disinfecting police facilities in the Upper East Region.
Police facilities in all the nine districts within the region are being covered in the five-day exercise which begun Friday morning.
The exercise, which is a collaboration between the Ghana Police Service and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, aims at protecting the police and their public from the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19).
The Upper East phase was launched Friday at the Regional Police Command in Bolgatanga, paving the way for the Zoomlion spraying gang to move into action from command.
The team will move to police installations in Sandema, Chuchuliga, Fumbisi, Bawku, Bawku Division, Pusiga, Binduri, Zebilla, Binaba, Sepeliga and Garu.
The rest are Nangodi, Bongo, Tongo, Pwalugu, Gbane, Zuarungu, Navrongo station, Chiana station, Paga station Mieigu, and Sirigu stations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Osei Kwaku Ampofo-Osei, applauded the collaboration between government and Zoomlion in helping to contain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said the exercise was necessary considering the devastating effects of the disease, adding that nine police officers in the region have so far contracted the disease.
The exercise, he explained, will go a long way to protect police officers, their families and the citizenry.
The commander called for cooperation of the police in the region to ensure the exercise is effective and successful.
It would be recalled that the Ghana Police Service at the start of May contracted Zoomlion Ghana Limited to fumigate and disinfect all 1,249 facilities of the service in the country of bed bugs infestations and covid-19 among other dangerous insects and rodents.
The exercise formed part of efforts by the police service to contain the spread of the COVID-19 and create a safe environment for the personnel to work and live in.
