Parliament has denied reports making rounds that two members and some staff have tested positive for coronavirus.
Last week, the Speaker ordered a mandatory test for all 275 members as well as staff of the Parliamentary Service.
Members of the Parliamentary Press Corps were also tested in a bid to stem the spread of the viral disease in case of any outbreak within the Service.
“Parliament would like to state categorically that the results of the tests are not yet known and so the report by Starrfmonline is not true,” the legislative arm of government said in a press release on Tuesday, May 26.
Earlier, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensa-Bonsu and the Director of Health of the legislature denied the media reports.
The release signed by Kate Addo, the Director of Public Affairs, said the confidentiality protocol of testing and announcing results for Covid-19 will be strictly observed.
With that protocol a call is placed to those who test positive for the necessary steps to be taken for quarantine and treatment.
“Officially, Parliament is unaware of any such call and has no official figures from the National Covid-19 Response Team.”
