Pregnant women seeking healthcare at the Tatale Polyclinic will do so with much ease as an ultramodern maternity block nears completion.
The block, which is funded by the Tatale-Sanguli District Assembly, is in response to a story carried by TV3 about how nursing mothers on admission had to lie on the floor due to inadequate beds and space.
TV3 carried the story in November last year.
When the news team visited the hospital last year, new born babies and their mothers who had no beds were lying on paper cards on the floor of the maternity ward serving as mats.
The story also showed other patients of the male and female wards receiving treatment in plastic chairs.
Almost a year after the report, the Tatale-Sanguli District Assembly has put up an ultramodern maternity at the Polyclinic.
The block, which is 95 percent complete, is expected to be handed over to the facility by the end of November.
Clement Obah, the Assistant Health Manager at the Polyclinic, was grateful to TV3 for bringing the issue to the limelight.
“The situation was really bad and thanks to your reportage the Assembly came in and in a month this facility will be completed and put to use.”
He appealed to government to construct the Yendi-Tatale-Nachamba road
Some pregnant women and nursing mothers who were at the clinic to access healthcare and spoke to 3news.com said they were happy with the project.
The District Chief Executive, Thomas Mbombah, said the project was necessary to reduce maternal related issues.
He gave the assurance the Assembly will continue to do its best to ensure access to quality healthcare in the district.
