Some 200 women farmers from six deprived communities in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region are to be supported with farm inputs and implements.
The support from Maltiti Foundation, a non-profit organization, is aimed at promoting quality livelihood for the women farmers.
Maltiti Foundation has been supporting the women through its Women in Agric Project since 2018.
In 2018, the Foundation started with only 20 beneficiaries and increased it to 60 in 2019.
However, in 2020 due to the impact of Covid-19, the project could not continue.
This year, the organization is targeting some 200 beneficiaries from six communities to benefit from tractor services and other farm inputs as well as training.
The project is run in Jidan Turu, Kayeriso, Mbaupe, Kpembe and Kabache
Chief Executive Officer of Maltiti Foundation Ewura Adams Karim said the support is aimed at promoting quality livelihood for women in deprived communities.
He said the gesture is to empower the women economically to reduce poverty levels.
“Our main focus is seeing to the economic independence of these women to reduce the poverty levels and with the help of the Ford Motor Company Fund, we are supporting 200 of them this year.”
Chief Bawa Adam lauded the Foundation for the intervention.
“Women were not engaged in farming because they did not have lands but now through this Foundation they own lands and farm on them.”
A beneficiary, Mohammed Kande, said the Women in Agric project has been beneficial to her and the family.
“I have been a beneficiary of the Maltiti Women in Agric project since 2018 and my life has improved significantly.”
This year’s project will be funded by Ford Motor Company Fund.
