Minimalism is becoming increasingly popular with young Africans and the need to live in less and less clutter becomes more attractive. But most say the motivation is more financially inclined.
The minimalistic lifestyle is intentionally living/owning the things that you only need, which equals fewer possessions and less spending (impulse buying). Minimalism surfaced sometime after the financial crash in 2008. It has become increasingly popular in Europe, Asia and the United States ever since. The premise relies on owning fewer physical possessions to make way for clarity, power and vividness in our lives.
The rising popularity among Young Africans maybe is its cost-effectiveness considering the spiking inflation levels in our economies. Others say they are drawn to it because it allows them to move around freely (travel or move house) without them dragging loads of movables with them. Some minimalist swears to have a firmer grip on their finances from non-existent impulse buying.
Would you be a minimalist?
