Seven persons are feared dead in a galamsey pit at Korle Teye in the Birim North district of the Eastern region.
Sources say residents are racing against time to rescue a dozen others believed to be trapped in the illegal Takorso mining site.
An ambulance was seen carrying lifeless bodies away.
