Parents are becoming anxious as this year’s placement for senior high schools has delayed, with first-year students expected to report this Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
The implication is that prospective students are uncertain about their high school destinations barely two days to reopening.
The frustrations on the faces of parents and their wards are telling but the Ghana Education Service is yet to address the situation.
“We are worried sick. My child’s future hangs in the balance. When will the placement be released?” – a parent asked.
During the news team’s visit to the Makola Market on Monday, October 28, a prospective student noted that “I have worked hard for this moment; not knowing my placement is frustrating and stressful.”
The Makola market is a vibrant commercial hub with a bustling energy. Thousands of traders, customers and porters navigate the crowded pathways.
As the new academic year beckons, parents have started flocking the market to stock up essentials. But they still do not know when the senior high school placement will be released.
“When things go this way, the single parents struggle to make ends meet. It puts us under pressure because your child would not be placed early for you to make adequate preparations,” some parents lamented.
The Education Ministry has announced free access to the 2024/25 SHS and TVET placement results but thousands of junior high school graduates are in anxious anticipation.
Since its inception, the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for SHS has encountered difficulties each year. The Ghana Education Service (GES) expects that this year might see some improved efficiency.
3news understands from sources that the placement might be released on the night of October 28, 2024. Meanwhile, this reopening date aims to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year to pave the way for final-year students to write their 2025/26 WASSCE in May/June.
