The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged Ghanaians to disregard comments by Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter with Wontumi FM.
Oheneba in a viral video is heard disseminating false information about the voting process on December 7, telling Ghanaians that there are different voting dates for the Presidential candidates.
Oheneba has since been arrested by the police and charged for offences including publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Reacting to the issue in a statement on November 24, 2024, the EC described the comment as “misleading” and urged the public to ignore same.
“The General Public is informed that the 2024 Election will take place on 7th December, 2024.
“Voters are reminded that voting on the 7th December, 2024, starts from 7am until 5pm. The Commission encourages voters to go out in their numbers and cast their votes in an orderly manner,” the statement said.
