The Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has commissioned a 188 unit stores market complex at Agormenya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern region.
The Agormenya market, with its modern infrastructure and ancillaries is expected to significantly enhance trading activities within Odumasi-Krobo and its environs.
The project executed under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GS CSP) forms part of the government’s broader agenda to enhance urban infrastructure and economic activities in Municipal and District Assemblies.
The Local Government Minister in his address reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians through strategic infrastructure development.
He emphasized the transformative impact the market will have on local commerce and community life.
“This market will not only provide a conducive environment for trading activities but it will also serve as a significant boost to the local economy”.
It underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring that the people can carry out their economic activities in an improved, dignified conditions, he reiterated.
Mr. Korsah highlighted the government’s investment of $ 245 million in the GSCSP since 2019, aimed at addressing urban challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and improving service delivery in 35 municipal assemblies across the country.
He charged the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) and the assembly to maintain the market complex to ensure its long-term sustainability, cautioning that the ministry would not tolerate negligence in this regard.
The MCE for Lower Menya Krobo, Simon Kwaku Tetteh, on his part expressed optimism about the positive economic impact the market complex would have on the community.
He urged the people to be supportive of government’s initiatives, noting that such development projects are evidence of the prudent use of public funds.
He mentioned other projects the assembly has benefitted under the GSCSP including road upgrades, construction of storm drains and business resource center which has enhanced entrepreneurship and contributed to increased revenue generation.
