Right to Dream Academy, one of Africa’s premier football academies, has marked a significant milestone – its 25th anniversary marked by a grand durbar held on Monday, November 25, at Old Akrade in the Eastern Region.
The academy, founded in 1999 by Tom Vernon former Manchester United scout, has established itself as a hub for nurturing young talent, producing top-notch players who have made a name for themselves in both club and country football.
The academy’s impressive track record includes notable alumni such as Simon Adingra, Mohammed Kudus, Osman Ibrahim, and Abdul Mumin, among others. These players have not only excelled in their respective clubs but have also represented their countries with distinction.
To commemorate this momentous occasion, the academy unveiled a stunning monument consisting of 25 layers, symbolizing the academy’s 25 years of excellence. The monument, named “Kania” (Light in Twi), serves as a powerful reminder of the academy’s enduring legacy.
In addition to the monument, the academy also launched a magazine as part of the ceremony, highlighting its achievements and success stories over the years.
The CEO of Right to Dream Academy emphasised the importance of the academy and its impact on the lives of countless young people. The academy’s commitment to providing a holistic education, combining sports and academics, has been instrumental in shaping the futures of its students.
“What people don’t really know is that Right To Dream is not just about football. It’s about football and education so we choose the best footballing talent we can find across the subcontinent and then we choose the best educational talent.”
Notable attendees at the ceremony included James C Nortey, an alumnus of Right to Dream and Head of Academy Care and Culture-RTD Ghana, as well as San Jose, who plays for Earthquakes in the MLS.
Guest speaker Dr Austin Wontepaga Lugaterah, Director of Sports and Wellness Directorate from the University of Ghana, also remained confident that Right To Dream possesses the expertise and resources to nurture another generation of top-tier talents over the next 25 years, who will go on to make a profound impact on the world.
“They [Right to Dream] have shown in the past 25 years that they have produced so many great talents and I can imagine how the next 25 years is going to look now. The people we see now as kids, just add another 25 years to their lives, they are going to be the leaders.”
As Right to Dream Academy looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of empowering young talent through holistic development. With its rich legacy and continued dedication to excellence, the academy is poised to produce even more exceptional players who will make their mark on the world of football.
