Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has claimed that an amount of money and other valuable items have gone missing following the raid of the home of former Governor of Bank of Ghana, Ernest Addison.
Afenyo-Markin during a press conference in Parliament on March 20, 2025 said GHC10,000 and some ear rings and necklaces belonging to the wife of the former BoG Governor could not be found after the operation.
“At the end of their raid, they could not find anything. Unfortunately for the Governor some ten thousand Ghana cedis on his bed could not be found.
“The governor’s wife’s ear rings and necklaces were also not traced. They could not be found,” he stated.
A group of heavily armed men raided the Roman Ridge residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
According to a report by Asaase Radio, the operatives, numbering about 20, arrived in three vehicles, some wearing balaclavas and carrying AK-47 rifles.
Upon entering the premises, they disabled the CCTV system before demanding that Dr. Addison lead them to alleged vaults hidden in the house.
The former Governor denied having any vaults or caches of cash on the property. Despite this, the operatives ransacked the house, overturning furniture and disrupting the household.
After an extensive search, the operatives confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit before seizing four of Dr. Addison’s vehicles, including his Toyota Lexus and Mercedes Benz, and driving them to an undisclosed location.
Following the raid, Afenyo-Markin visited the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison at his residence.
Afenyo-Markin, who reportedly expressed outrage at the incident, consoled Dr. Addison and his family, describing the raid as deeply troubling. He assured the former BoG Governor that he would demand answers from the government regarding the operation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim has justified the alleged home raiding and arrest of some former officials who served under the erstwhile NPP administration.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s New Day, Thursday, March 20, 2025, she said what is being witnessed is only a means of information gathering and part of ongoing investigations.
“I’m yet to get to the office to receive a full briefing on the matter but what I can say is that there are some actions going on, there are some investigations ongoing, there are persons of interest who will be now and again invited to help the investigation process.
“There are means of gathering information, and one of the means is to visit the homes of these persons of interest,” she explained.
