Fire fighters are in their moments of quenching a monstrous fire which has already ravaged the famous ‘Blue Light’ market at Adum in Kumasi the Ashanti Regional capital.
The fire which started in the early hours of Friday (March 21) morning swept through buildings and lighted up the ‘Blue Light’ market in what can only be described as ‘a supersonic’ speed.
Wild and swift hundreds of shops have already been reduced to ashes after two hours of intense blaze.
“Some of the shops had combustible” ACFO II Peter Tetteh, the Ashanti Regional fire commander told Evans-Nkum on Sunday.
Dozens of shops on the Akwasi Agyemang Building were burn down. Two other 3-storey buildings adjacent the Hello FM building were also gutted.
The Regional fire commander said “one of the shops had stocked of ammunition but the owner had document for his trade so the police have taken over the matter, but the remaining ammunition have been removed from the affected shop supervised by the police”
A fire which looks almost like a nemesis to the fire fighters is just some minutes away from succumb.
“We would have dealt with the situation on Friday if we had excavators” ACFO II Peter Tetteh says amidst concerns of delaying to deal with the disaster.
