Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has commended new Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew for his exceptional leadership, which has inspired the team to secure back-to-back victories in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ayew, 33, was appointed captain for the March internationals, where Ghana faced Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, in the absence of his brother Andre Ayew.
Jordan’s impressive performance helped the Black Stars bounce back from a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, catapulting them to the top of Group I with five points clear of second place Madagascar.
The Leicester City forward scored a goal and provided four assists in the matches against Chad and Madagascar, which Ghana won 5-0 and 3-0, respectively.
Ayew now boasts an impressive five goals and four assists in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, placing him second behind Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, who has six goals and three assists.
During a TV3 Sports Station presentation on Monday, Agyemang-Badu praised Jordan Ayew’s leadership qualities and performance.
“He’s very calm, with a strong mentality. Playing with him, you’ll realize the kind of guy he is. The captaincy issue has been resolved, and with the likes of Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan, we’re good to go.”
In recent times, captaincy controversies have plagued the Black Stars camp, with players like Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus taking on leadership roles in Andre Ayew’s absence.
The Black Stars will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in September, facing Comoros and Chad in their seventh and eighth group matches as they strive to secure their fifth World Cup appearance.
