Disgruntled New Patriotic Party (NPP) Volta Regional Chairman aspirant, Kofi Boateng, has secured an injunction on Saturday’s regional executive elections over claims of being disqualified unfairly.
The party was scheduled to hold its regional elections in Hohoe, but it would have to wait for at least 10 days to decide the way forward.
Mr. Boateng’s campaign attache, Nelson Kuma Oye, briefed the media on proceedings at a Ho High Court which culminated in the injunction.
“Yesterday [Thursday], the court adjourned the case and gave us an order to serve the defendant and we did that, and when they mentioned the case this [Friday] morning, they were not in court so the court granted the injunction stopping them for 10 days. The judge made them know that if they go ahead, they will face the consequences. So that was the ruling this morning,” he said.
Nelson Kuma Oye also maintained that “there are some cabals in the region who feel they don’t want the quality people [like Kofi Boateng] to lead this party.”
The other contenders vying for the position are a former Volta Regional Manager of Ghana Telecom, Douglas Kirk Wagba; the Regional Organiser, Makafui Kofi Woanyah; a financier of the party, David Agubiga; a private legal practitioner, Ken Anku, and a party activist, Rev. Johnson Avuletey.
On Monday, March 26, 2018, all the six aspirants went through the vetting process successfully at the headquarters.
But early in April, Mr. Boateng, the immediate past regional Secretary, was disqualified.
The position became vacant after the elevation of the former Chairman, John Peter Amewu, to a ministerial position.
Meanwhile, the NPP Regional Office had been locked up with no visible activities when Citi News visited.
Unlike previously, such events are characterized by varying activities at the party office on the eve of the election.
Delegates often converge on the yard amidst jubilation to be transported to the election venue.
