President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dispatched a Government delegation to represent Ghana at the funeral service of former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe.
A statement from the Presidency said the delegation is being led by former President Jerry John Rawlings.
“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has dispatched a Government delegation to represent Ghana at the funeral, in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Saturday, 14th September, 2019, of the late Robert Mugabe, first President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, whose first wife was a Ghanaian, the late, well-known nationalist, Sally Mugabe, neè Hayfron.”
“The delegation is led by the 1st President of the 4th Republic, His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings, and includes the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Charles Owiredu; a nephew of the late Sally Mugabe, Mr. Queesy Ninsin-Imbeah; and officials of the Foreign Ministry,” the statement added.
Mugabe died last Friday in Singapore at the age of 95 and is scheduled to be buried on Sunday, September 15.
His body is currently lying in state at the Rufaro football stadium in the capital of Zimbabwe.
Robert Mugabe will be buried in the National Heroes Acre monument in Harare, his family says, following a row with the government of Zimbabwe over his final resting site.
Prior to the burial on Sunday, a state funeral will be held on Saturday.
Heads of states of a number of countries will be present.
