The Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) has called on government to take concrete steps to address public safety concerns in the country.
On Monday, many areas including the Accra-Tema Motorway were flooded.
In the Ashanti Region, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) recorded twelve deaths as a result of floods over the past one month and a half.
The Accra-Aburi road at the hills also experienced rock falls, the second occurrence in the space of a week.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada indicated that pragmatic steps must be taken to avert imminent disasters.
“Our public safety problems to a large extent are engineering. You cannot pay lip service to engineering. If the solution demands that you put a brake here, no matter how much you talk, if there is no brake there, the problem will continue to live on and that is what we are facing now.
“If we do not put down the concrete actions, no matter how much you talk, our problems will still stare us in our face. You look at Aburi, what haven’t you guys said about Aburi? It is more scary than you think.”
