Kasoa (C/R), Nov. 3 GNA – Mr Joseph Ashon Cudjiw, former President of the Travel Writers Association of Ghana has urged journalists not to allow their profession to be used to slander people in authority without justification.
He said in such situations, journalists should engage themselves in what he termed “self-censorship drill” by exercising the much needed courage and bravery to advise personalities who approach them with destructive and baseless allegations.
Mr Ashon Cudjiw gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency when he spoke on “the implications of defamation stories on national progress.”
The former President and the past Greater Accra Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) called on sub-editors of the various media houses to be extra vigilant to “kill” all disparaging and baseless news items which come their way.
He said the nation is privileged to have a visionary leader in the person of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and had called for total cooperation and goodwill of all Ghanaians for the development and prosperity of the country and such destructive stories must be avoided.
‘’We should therefore do everything possible as dependable professionals and equally development-oriented citizens, to assist the president push his development agenda forward,” Mr Ashon Cudjiw urged.
He said the President has put in place laudable policies and if allowed to go through without any impediments, the nation would achieve major breakthrough in its economic independence.
