Accra, April 5, GNA – The Junior and Senior Staff Unions of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) on Thursday passed a vote of confidence in Mr Alfred Obeng Boateng, Managing Director, describing him as hard working, innovative, competent and incorruptible.
In a document jointly signed by Mr Abdul Jamil, Chairman, Senior Staff Union; and Mr Sebiyam Samuel Mampaya, Chairman, Junior Staff Union and obtained by the Ghana News Agency, the workers pledged to defend the national interest vested in BOST.
“We cannot sit down for a few people to destroy BOST, which is strategically positioned to serve the nation just because of their selfish interest which is always placed above the common interest of Ghanaians,” Mr Jamil told the GNA in an interview in Accra.
Mr Jamil explained that the joint posture of the two unions was based on some pragmatic measures adopted by the restructured Management team headed by Mr Obeng Boateng to restore the company to its rightful business position.
The BOST Senior Staff Union Chairman said the new MD had instituted measures to block most of the loopholes in the company which some individuals within and outside exploited to the disadvantage of the company in the past.
The new measures included; reshuffling of the loading terminal (APD) transmission team, blocked diversion of fuel, and cancelation of the old policy, which allowed staff to buy contaminated fuel products.
Mr Jamil explained that since the cancelation of the policy, fuel contamination that was very rampant in the past had ceased. “No contamination has happened since January 25, 2017 to date”.
He said another disturbing canker that had been eliminated was the sale of products to Burkina Faso, Mali, Liberia, and sometimes Nigerian without any financial instruments to secure it.
“Till date there is a huge debt in our books against those foreign companies which cannot be traced. The present MD has instituted new export policy based on cash and carry transaction basis,” Mr Jamil stated.
Mr Jamil said, “It may interest you to know that some Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) were given fuel products without invoice meaning they were getting the products free of charge at the expense of BOST, such fraudulent practices has been eliminated.
“Some BDCs also stored their products in BOST system and some were either not paying the storage fees at all or paying for only one month irrespective of the number of months that the systems was used”.
The BOST Senior Staff Union Chairman explained that Mr Obeng Boateng’s bold decision to ensure that every BDC paid for storage and rack fee fully as well as storage fees on monthly basis had offended some members who adopted a media propagandist war against the MD.
“The loopholes that Mr Obeng Boateng led administration has blocked are many and therefore he and his team deserve commendation and support from the media and the general public to be able to withstand the unnecessary attack directing to them periodically.
“What amazes the staff is that the MD has brought unity to the company, and assigned all staff to a new salary scale,” Mr Jamil stated.
