Accra, Aug. 1, GNA – Mrs Monica Kumahor, the Regional Manager of the Methodist Schools, has called on parents to invest much in their children’s academic education to better their lives than themselves.
She said this was the moral responsibility of parents in addition to their duty of correcting the children when they go wrong whilst motivating them when they excel in their endeavours.
Mrs Kumahor made the call when she delivered a speech on behalf of the General Manager of Methodist Schools, Very Rev Mrs Naana Danyame at the graduation ceremony of the Junior High School students and Kindergarten ‘2’ pupils respectively of the Mt Olivet Methodist Academy at Dansoman in Accra.
Speaking on the theme of the occasion: “Child Training: Partnership between Home and School,” Mrs Kumahor said the home and school have roles to play in ensuring the holistic development of the child.
She advised parents to constantly monitor the academic work and social relationship of their children besides praying and teaching them the gospel of God for them to lead lives of sanctity.
The Regional Manager said in partnering the home in the training of the child, the school must also provide a conducive environment for learning, adding that, teachers must encourage and motivate learners to give of their best.
“Teachers must equally be role models to learners, be diligent and patient in their routine with learners,” she stressed.
Mrs Kumahor noted that the Methodist church also impacts directly or indirectly in the training of the child since their learning institutions are mission schools, and their hymns are learnt to inculcate in the learners the doctrines of the church whilst the word of God serves their spiritual needs.
Mr Paapa Arthur, the Headmaster of the school told the outgoing Junior High School students that as adolescents, they would be confronted with both positive and negative attractions in the world and advised them to make God their priority in all situations.
He admonished them not to depart from the moral training they have acquired over the years and remember that once they have Christ, they would overcome whatever situation they might find themselves.
