Ada (G/A), Aug. 03, GNA – Mr Adzoteye Lawer Akrofi, the District Chief Executive for Ada West District, has appealed to the Ada Traditional Council to grant the Assembly entry to their historical sites to develop them into tourists attraction.
He said the venture would attract tourists and investors to the district and would help the Assembly to generate supplementary revenue to support the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to undertake development projects in the area.
Mr Akrofi made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Sege, the district capital of Ada West after a meeting with the people to educate them on the need to pay taxes and revenue to develop the area.
He attributed the delay of projects in the district to the continued inadequate inflow of the DACF and other external sources of funding to the Assembly and that they had instituted a number of measures to step up revenue generation to enhance development in the district.
Mr Akrofi said the assembly had identified some three tourists’ attraction sites at Okorhem, Oluenanya and Katatenya and that if they were properly developed, that could fetch the assembly appreciable revenue for projects.
He said the Assembly had put in place plans to prevent revenue going into individuals’ pockets.
He said: “The Assembly’s revenue has fallen due to a myriad of challenges the salt industry in the area faces and had awakened us from our slumber to devise innovative ways to boost our revenue base and that the development of any District Assembly depends on its ability to mobilise more revenue locally to help reduce the dependence on its external funding.”
