Naaha (U/W), Sept. 18, GNA – Children in some selected schools in the Wa West District Assembly has observed 'My First day at School'.
The celebration was marked with visits and motivational talks to teachers and school children by state officials in schools including; Naaha D/A Primary School, Samanbo D/A Primary School and Kuukyiletoo R/C Primary School.
Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan, the Upper West Regional Minister, who was accompanied by some education officials, on behalf of the first lady – Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo - and her delegation, urged the pupils to learn hard saying, “Education is the key to success”.
The pupils were also advised to be punctual and regular to school and at the same time take active parts in school activities.
“I encouraged you all to be good students at school, good students at home and good students everywhere you find yourself. We were once like you,” he said.
He urged teachers to do their best mentoring the pupils since they contribute significantly to the success of education in the country.
He also called on parents and guardians to ensure that their wards stay in school as well as make education their priority.
Alhaji Alhassan after addressing the pupils distributed assorted learning and teaching materials, free school uniforms and pair of sandals to each of the children.
Mr Evans Kpebah, the Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Education Service, called on teachers to be more innovative in teaching the children, especially at the KG and lower primary levels.
He said the celebration was to encourage pupils to stay in school to learn.
Mr Edward Laabiir Sabo, the Wa West District Chief Executive, appealed to the teachers to make the school a home for the kids in order to prevent them from running away from contact hours.
Mr Sabo said the programme was supported by the first lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
