Bolgatanga, Sept 28, GNA – Staff of the Information Services Department (ISD) in the Upper East Region have been applauded for diligently discharging their responsibilities in spite of the numerous challenges confronting the institution.
Mrs Elizabeth Efua Essel, the Acting Director of the ISD, who commended the staff at both the regional and district levels, indicated that in spite of the inconveniences including logistical and human resource constraints confronting the region, the staff provided best services in the discharge of the institution’s mandate.
She commended them for offering Public Relations services to Municipal and District Assemblies in the region as well as executing publicity assignments for other institutions of state, and organizations that needed their services.
The Acting Director said this when she interacted with staff of the ISD in Bolgatanga for the first time since assuming office.
Mrs Essel noted that management at the head office had identified the challenges impeding effective and efficient service delivery at the various districts and regional offices, and said plans were advanced to address them by providing basic necessities to improve performance.
“It will take a gradual process to meet the critical logistics needs of the ISD but with time, every regional and district ISD office will get at least basic equipment to do their work”. She added.
She stated that several engagements had been held with government to resource the ISD to periodically organise in-service training programmes to equip staff as well as procure new Information Vans and Public Address Equipment to make the institution function more effectively.
Mrs Essel however, noted that, the amount involved in procuring logistics for smooth running of the revitalization programme was huge and that, there were discussions to procure and do allocations in phases such that, each region would receive some essential equipment to do the work.
The Acting Director admonished the ISD staff to develop cordial working relationship with the various Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) to facilitate development in the various districts, adding that, “at no point in time should you quarrel with the DCEs at the Assemblies or wherever you are posted as Information Officers.
“Always offer your advice and expertise as Civil Servants and as ISD staff, be diplomatic in your dealings at the work place”.
Mr Charles Wereko, A Director in charge of Finance and Administration at the ISD Headquarters explained that there were plans to organise media engagements at various districts to expose the public to development projects and government intervention at the local governance level.
This, he said would begin in 2019 and would ensure that the members of the public were well informed on happenings at both central government and the Assembly levels.
Mr Bennin Issifu, the Acting Upper East Regional Information Officer, who thanked Mrs Essel and her team for the visit appealed for more staff to augment the 37 staff across the 15 Municipal and Districts in the region.
Mr Issifu mentioned the lack of office equipment such as computers and accessories, lack of access to internet, at the regional and district levels, obsolete public address equipment and the lack of equipped audio-visual information vans as some of the obstacles impeding ISD’s work in the region.
The Acting Regional Director praised his staff as well as the Regional Coordinating Council for the immense support and cooperation he had received since he assumed office in August.
