Bolgatanga (UE), Oct. 29, GNA - Duedraogo Daouda, a cyclist from Burkina Faso on Saturday, won the second stage of Tour Du Faso International Cycling Union (ICU) cycling competition held in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.
In a competition, that drew about 80 cyclists from 15 countries, Daouda completed the 155km race in 3:51:08 hours.
The race began at Manga in Burkina Faso, with Keller Hermann from Germany closing in on him within 3:51:09 hours to place second, whilst De Boes Timmy, a Belgian Cyclist placed third with 3:51:09.
Ghana’s Anthony Boakye of the Golden Peddlers, placed 41st, while his team mate, Francis Owusu placed 47th and Tettey Gabriel finished 54th.
Other Ghanaian competitors, Michael Agbugblah, Doku Maxwell and Tagoe Solomon finished in the 55th, 64th and 69th positions respectively.
Mr Dauda Azoupion, Minister for Sport from Burkina Faso, said he was happy this year’s cycling competition had taken place in Ghana, was confident it would open up opportunities for more sporting activities between the two countries.
Mr. Fuseini Adongo, the Acting Upper East Regional Minister said, cycling was one of the popular sporting disciplines in the world that did not only promote physical well-being, but also gave people from different countries, the opportunity to meet.
He said 14 countries across the world had been brought together to Ghana, not only for the game but to promote humanity and strengthen friendship among them.
He commended the local organizing committee for their efforts at ensuring that the race was incident free.
Mr. Shaaban Mohammed, the Technical Director in charge of Para Cycling in Africa, challenged the youth to take up cycling, as it was a beneficial venture that would improve their health.
He urged stakeholders including duty bearers at the grassroots level to champion the course of para cycling on the African continent, as it would promote the face of Africa through tourism and project socio-economic activities in the area.
