Mr Koranteng commended Mr Owusu in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, when he led a team of the mobile telecom giant to make presentation of assorted digital gadgets to aid operations of the GNA in Upper West.
“MTN is happy to be here, to once again rekindle our relationship with GNA and most especially congratulate Mr Kofi Owusu on his appointment as the General Manager of this great organisation,” he said.
He also congratulated GNA for picking five awards at the 23rd Ghana Journalists Award, saying, and: “more deservingly being adjudged the Best in Information and Communication and Digital Journalism”.
The News Agency regional office was given two HP micro tower PC, one HP laser jet printer, two digital voice recorders, one digital camera and assorted gadgets to aid frontline reporters.
The donation was in response to an appeal made by the Upper West Regional office of GNA in Wa to corporate organisations including; MTN early this year to assist the agency with relevant equipment but only MTN has so far responded to the request.
“As a telecommunications service provider with a track record of supporting media excellence,” Mr Koranteng said: “we decided to commit some resources to support the regional office with computers and other tools to help your team work better”.
He said it was the vision of the telecom giant to “lead the delivery of bold new digital world,” and encouraged the GNA to make good use of social media platforms to boost its coverage.
Mr Dasmani Laary, the Upper West Regional Manager of GNA, expressed profound thanks to MTN, and assured the team that the resources would be used to enhance dissemination of news for national development and integration.
Mr Koranteng was flanked by Nii Adortey Mingle, General Manager – Regional Sales Northern Ghana, Ms Afua S. Asafo-Adjei, Corporate Services, Mr Obed Adu-Amankwah, the Upper West Territory Sales Controller and Ms Angela Ampofo, also from corporate services department of MTN.
