Alavanyo Deme (V/R), Nov. 13, GNA - Mama Awanyo I, Queenmother of Alavanyo Deme, has donated 55 dual desks to the Alavanyo Deme Basic School.
The furniture will serve some 114 junior high students in the School, established in the 1950s by the people of Deme and Dzogbedze.
The Queenmother said the School's poor performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations in 2011 to 2014 became a wakeup call to stakeholders who endeavoured to secure 12 teachers for the struggling School.
She said the School required more government support to surmount challenges related to input and security among other things towards the rise in enrolment figures.
Mama Awanyo called on parents and teachers to do more for the children and mentor the pupils, a majority of whom had been traumatised by the Alavanyo and Nkonya land conflict.
She expressed gratitude to all who in various ways supported the School and asked teachers to create bonds of friendship with the pupils and help them in career guidance.
Mr Michael Afedo, the Headmaster of the School, said it lacked amenities including power, water, security, textbooks, a library, and sanitary facilities, which must be addressed to sustain gains made in academic performance.
He appealed for the Primary School to be captured under the School Feeding Programme and pleaded with the communities to help provide affordable accommodation for the teachers.
Dr Bernice Heloo, a Member of Parliament for Hohoe, donated two sets of computers and GH¢1,000.00 to the School and promised to help provide the needed support it needs.
Mr Teddy Ofori, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, said a borehole would soon be provided for the School and that the Assembly would ensure that its demands were met.
He also donated GH¢1,000.00 and sets of sports jerseys to the School.
