Accra, Dec. 10, GNA - A total of 18 schools across the country participated in the maiden edition of the National Schools Championship organised by the Badminton Association Ghana (BAG) from Friday, December 7, to December 9.
The participants, were made up of International Schools, Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools nationwide, who battled in both individual events and team events, included; Tema International School (TIS),Our Lady of Mercy, Bolga Secondary School, Oyoko Methodist High, Achimota Senior High School, Nyakrom High Technical School, T.I Ahamadiya High School, Bompata High Schools among others.
Mr. Yeboah Evans, President of the BAG, said in an interview after the competition that, the maiden edition of the competition had been successful and the Association was looking forward for better ones in future.
He said, even though the Association had provided training for teachers, more technical training would be provided across the country following lessons picked from the maiden edition, to improve on the technical quality of athletes.
“For us it is important that, our physical education tutelage that we took to the schools in June this year is yielding results. There is still a lot of teaching to be done for the physical education teachers in the SHS, JHS and International School programs.
"Its been very beautiful for all the schools in the maiden edition of the National Schools Championship.
“We have to still keep up with a lot of teaching. Next year for instance, we will have a training for teachers on regional basis every quarter,” he said.
All medal winners of the National Schools Championship would represent Ghana in the upcoming Africa Schools Championship, which begins from December 13-20.
