Bolgatanga, Dec. 15, GNA – Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Williams Kpormegbe, the Upper East Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, has called for drivers to observe traffic laws to keep the roads safe.
The lawlessness and indiscipline should stop to prevent road crashes during and after the Christmas.
Making the call through the Ghana News Agency (GNA in Bolgatange, he reminded drivers to make sure that all the safety devices of their vehicles were functional before they put them on the road.
“If you want to put your vehicle on the road, the law requires that it should be roadworthy.”
DSP Kpormegbe underlined the resolve of the MTTD to combine strict enforcement of the law with safety education to significantly bring down the carnage on the roads.
They had been working in partnership with the National Road Safety Commission, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the Ministry of Road and Transport to achieve the goal.
He added that adequate measures had been made to make sure that there was discipline and order.
There was strong police presence on the roads and intensification of road checks.
The Commander warned of the arrest and prosecution of drivers and riders with faked documents.
He advised motorbike riders to wear crash helmet and said that was for their own safety.
