Obogu (Ash), Jan. 10, GNA – The Asante Akim-South Municipal Assembly in line with government’s vision to make education accessible to all from basic to second cycle level have committed a chunk of its resources to address the educational needs of the people.
Mr Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said investing in the education of the citizenry is the surest way to build the human resource needed for accelerated development.
He said about 70 per cent of the assembly’s finances are spent on education interventions in the form of scholarships, school fees, infrastructure as well as teaching and learning materials.
Mr Frimpong made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Obogu Traditional area, Nana Oduro Apenteng on Wednesday.
The visit of the MCE, who was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mrs. Louisa Benon and other officials of the Assembly, was to pay homage to the chief who was marking one of the sacred Wednesdays on the Asante calender, known as “Awukudae”.
Mr Frimpong said educating the populace is a giant step towards building a prosperous and enlightened nation hence the introduction of the free Senior High school policy by the government.
He urged the people in the Municipality to take advantage of the numerous interventions in the education sector to climb the academic ladder saying that no one should be left behind with government’s determination to create equal opportunities for all.
Mr Frimpong used the opportunity to applaud Nana Apenteng and his elders for the bold initiative to establish a senior high school in the town and pledged the Assembly’s support to the school.
He said the Assembly is also making some strides in the areas of health, roads, agriculture as well as water and sanitation adding that he was committed to ensure an even distribution of development projects across the Municipality.
Mr Frimpong called on the public to unite and rally behind the Assembly as it strives to bring development to every community.
Nana Apenteng commended the MCE and his team for the good job they were doing and urged them to double their efforts to improve the lives of the people
He said his vision since ascending the throne over the past two years was to bring development to his people and was ready to partner the Assembly in that direction.
He appealed to the MCE and the District Education Directorate to take steps to absorb the Senior High School which was currently being managed by the community into the public system.
