Kumasi, Feb. 20, GNA - The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has indicated its commitment to develop a comprehensive regulatory structure to guide stakeholders in their activities.
Mr Akwasi Agyemang, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said the Authority in line with this had expanded its scope of engagement in the draft Legislative Instrument (LI) on Tourism Regulations 2019.
He said the L.I. when documented, would be critical to improving significant issues relating to standards, licensing and ownership, in order to bring sustainable development to the tourism sector.
Mr Agyemang was addressing a day’s consultative meeting in Kumasi, organised by his outfit for stakeholders in the Ashanti, Bono-East and the Ahafo Regions.
The event brought together, District Chief Executives, and Planning Officers, tourist site owners, tour and site guides, as well as GTA officials.
The draft L.I., which was currently being considered by the government, extensively takes into consideration, some key concerns regarding the categories and management of tourist sites, registration, state of facilities and capacity-building.
Others include; safety and security, hygiene and submission of financial statement.
Mr Agyemang said the GTA would not relent in its pursuit to standardise regulations that would guide owners of tourist attractions to operate efficiently.
“We need proper governing structures to guide stakeholders as to what they ought to do in order to make them more productive,” he noted.
