Takoradi, March 09, GNA – Skyy FM, a local FM station in Takoradi, has organized a blood donation exercise in Takoradi with the aim of restocking the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital to help save lives.
The exercise took place at the Skyy Media house premises of which close to three hundred people volunteered to donate blood.
The Chief Executive Officer of Skyy FM, Mrs Adwoa Amofah Arthur said the blood donation exercise which is done annually started some years back with the aim of stocking the Regional hospital blood bank to support patients who might need blood urgently.
According to her, the exercise is organized every 6th March due to its symbolism, and added it was ideal for Ghanaians to also give back to the society.
She noted that, currently they were collaborating with Effia-Nkwanta Hospital because it houses the Regional Blood Bank which supplies blood to other hospitals.
Mrs Arthur commended the sponsors, Syrus Oil and Cowbell for their continuous assistance.
Mr. Ernest Kwakye, a laboratory technician at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital commended Skyy FM for the annual blood donation to the facility, stressing that it would go a long way to restock the blood bank.
According to him, normally after Christmas the blood bank is always empty and that the exercise would help restock blood bank to cater for accident injuries and other needs.
In an interaction with some donors, they commended the FM station for the exercise since it served as an avenue for them to check their health status and also give back to society.
