Accra, March 21, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday remanded two teenagers into Police custody for allegedly robbing two mobile phones.
They are Lukeman Ali, 18, unemployed and Razak Sulemana, 17, a car washing attendant pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy and robbery and will reappear in court on the 1st April.
Three other accomplices are now at large.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Samuel Ahiabor told the Court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that Collins Boateng, the complainant is a student of Suhum Preparatory School whilst Ali and Sulemana are residents of Darkuman, a suburb of Accra.
He said on March 6, at about 1430 hours, the complainant, one Salim Issah, with his brother and wife, Ama Joyce, all witnesses in the case went to the Efia Beach behind the Arts Centre to swim and have fun.
The Prosecution said Boateng did not swim so the others left their mobile phones with him for safe keeping.
He said whilst there, Ali approached Boateng and begged for alms, in the process he switched and directed the complainant to hand over the cell phones he was holding to him, but he refused.
Police Inspector Ahiabor said a struggle ensued between the two but Sulemana who was armed with a kitchen knife joined the melee in their attempt to seize the phones.
The prosecution said Sulamana then stabbed the complainant with the kitchen knife twice on the head.
He said the complainant finally gave in, of which the two took the phones from the complainant and took to their heels but Boateng raised an alarm.
Inspector Ahiabor said two policemen and a civilian around the vicinity got attracted to the scene and chased the accused persons, Sulemana sensing danger threw the phones away but the witnesses retrieved one of them.
He said the two were overtaken by the policemen and subsequently arrested upon which a search on them revealed the knife Sulemana used to stab the complainant, they were later sent to the Ministries Police Station whilst Boateng was sent to the hospital for treatment.
The Prosecution said the accused persons admitted the offence in their cautioned statement and later mentioned their alleged accomplices.
Mr Ahiabor said they were then charged and put before the Court.
