Accra, March 22, – The National Theatre has rolled-out proactive entertainment programmes in its pursuit to make the theatre filled with fun and to amuse and incite the Ghanaian entertainment industry throughout the year.
Mrs Amy Appiah Frimpong, Executive Director of the National Theatre told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that, as part of the new brand image of the theatre, “we are to lead in an entertainment revolution.
“We are therefore introducing new shows to augment the interesting and existing and bring variety to the theatre. The new shows are poetry performances, drama performances and film show.
“The old shows such as Concert Party, Funworld, Highlife Time and the Comedy Series which will feature prominently have been transformed to meet the taste of the larger Ghanaian audience”.
Mrs Frimpong noted that the poetry performances were scheduled for every first Thursday of the month, “we have created this platform for both built talents and offer poets opportunity to exhibit their skills”.
He said the National Theatre in partnership with well-known poetry group, Ehalakasa were working together to mark the World Poetry Day scheduled for March 21, whereas World Theatre day would also be observed on March 27.
The drama performances are programmed for the last Wednesday of every month. This is to give opportunity to amateur groups that might not have the financial muscle to organise on their own. This show is also in partnership with 2idiots Production.
The last Thursdays of every month is slated for the film shows.
This show would bring film goers together at the theatre for a good night.
It is in partnership with Rana Way Films.
Other entertainment shows for the month include; Highlife Time, Friday March 22 at 1900 hours; Concert Party, Sunday March 24 at 1400 hours; Wednesday Theatre March 27 at 1900 hours; Comedy Series Thursday March 29 at 1900 hours; and Film show, Thursday March 28 at 1900 hours.
