Agona Swedru (C/R), March 22, GNA – The Reverend Alex Yeboah, Convener of the Environmental Sub-committee of Agona West Municipal Assembly, has given a two-week ultimatum to Zoomlion Waste Collection Company to improve the quality of its services or face the wrath of the Assembly.
He described the services being provided by the company as not satisfactory, adding that, people in the area were unhappy.
The assembly was inundated with complaints about the poor quality of service – piles of refuse left uncollected in many parts of the municipality.
These areas include Yaabem, North Yaabem, Dwenho, Assisim, Nsusosowoso, Wawase, Babianiha, Desueanim, Ankyease Nsawam/Tsentsemhwe, Botwe Estate, Otabilkrom and Mahodwe.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru, he said a number of meetings had been held between the Committee, he chairs, and the Company, where the latter was asked to up its game.
The expectation was that Zoomlion would collect the waste regularly in all the about 20 electoral areas but it had not been able to do that.
The Rev Yeboah spoke of an instance where the assembly had to hire skip loaders to collect piled-up refuse.
The assembly had many financial commitments and was eager to ensure that there was value for money in any contract it entered into.
They would not hesitate to abrogate the contract with Zoomlion if it did not improve the quality of service.
