Accra, March 23, GNA - The gallant team of the Special Olympics Ghana, were given a rapturous welcome at the Kotoka International Airport, following their stupendous performance at the just ended Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, Dubai.
Ghana won two gold medals in athletics and football.
Ghana, noted for her prowess in football lost the 3rd place game to Romania.
Hannah Dantakar running a time of 29.59sec beat off competition from St Kitts and Nevis’ Tanique Richards to grab gold in women’s 200m.
The week-long games, which started on 14th March at Zayed Sports City Stadium saw Joseph Tettey Amertowasi also winning gold in the men’s 100m with a time of 13.13s to wrap up Ghana’s involvement in the games.
Speaking to the press at the airport, the Board Chairman of Special Olympics Ghana ACP (rtd) Augustine Kokukorkor described the whole events as a success.
“The whole event was a success because it is an improvement over our last appearance in Los Angeles where we had only a silver medal. We could have done far better than this if we’ve had enough financial support for early camping and preparations’.
The Special Olympics World games is a sporting event organized for children living with intellectual disability.
