Yendi, July 15, GNA – The Yendi Catholic Diocese is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Bishop Vincent Sowah Boi – Nai as Bishop of Yendi at the Our Lady of Lourves Cathedral at Yendi in the Northern Region.
The Priests who were present at the celebration included;Very Reverent Father Thomy Thomas Former Vicar General Very Reverend Father George Opong Assistant Cathedral Administrator, Very Reverend Father Pius Ladin, Bishop's Secretary, Reverend Fr David Kajal Vicar General, Rev. Fr Sixtus Dery Lecturer at the Catholic University Sunyani, Rev Fr Ayamba Michael Education Coordinator, Rev Fr George Deny Canon Lawyer, Rev Fr Isidor Ayana Parish Priest at Sang among others.
In a homily to climax the occasion, Bishop Vincent Sowah Boi – Nai indicated that his heart was filled with sentiments of joy and gratitude to God for His love, compassion and mercy that he had experienced during the past 20 years as a Bishop in Yendi
He said 20 years ago they had only six Parishes, which have increased to 14 of with numerous outreach stations with quite a good number of Diocesan Priests, Missionary and Religious Congregations, Catechist, prayer leaders, and active lay leaders all helping in their work of evangelisation within the Eastern Corridor.
Bishop Boi – Nai stated that he was grateful to God to see how the Diocese had many associations in the Diocese as compared to the early years.
He announced that the Catholic population was 3, 000 who were sympathizers, but now they have 17, 000 members not counting the sympathizers.
He said the Diocesan had also seen the establishment of numerous Basic Schools, Clinics, Polyclinics, Hospitals in various parishes, and Saint Vincent College of Education in Yendi.
He said they were happy to have Catholic Women Association, Saint Theresa Women Group Catholic Men Fellowship, Catholic Youth Organisation among others.
He said they were grateful that Dagbon was now peaceful with a new Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II who was enskined on 25th January, 2019.
He said their peace effort in establishing Yendi Peace Centre in Yendi to educate the public on peace had not been in vain. He called on them to stand firm in their faith without fear or obligation because they believe din God.
He said the celebration with the theme: “20years of Grace as Diocese” was appreciated because of the achievements.
In a related development ,the occasion was used for sod cutting to construct a GH¢2,817, 607.04 Yendi Catholic Diocesan Secretariat in Yendi.
Bishop Boi – Nai who cut sod for the project to start said the project was funded by Church in Need, Diocese Munster all in Germany and also there would be fund raising from individual church organizations.
He hoped that God would bless their good intentions and inspire generous people and donors who would be willing to help them towards the realisation of the project.
He said when the Secretariat is built it would house all their Diocesan officers to assure smooth running of the Diocesan Administration in the area
