Koforidua, July 16, GNA - One-hundred and Twenty Four (124) presbyters from about 15 congregations in the Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) have attended an eight-week training.
These are elected members of their various congregations who would now serve as leaders/presbyters for four years.
They were taken through topics such as understanding prayers, conflict resolution, communication, group dynamism, church constitution and Christian spirituality.
Reverend Dr Kofi Amfo-Akonor, Koforidua District Minister of the PCG, said the training of all lay members of the church is a policy that came into force some years ago to sharpen their skills in church activities.
He said the lay ministry training included catechists, church caretakers, evangelists, liturgists, church administrators and other specialized areas that were all geared towards the growth of the church and commended the participants for availing themselves for the training.
Reverend Ishmael Dometey Asare, Akuapem Presbytery Chairperson, who performed the graduation, said every ministry of the church required training, hence the effort.
He said as presbyters, they were leaders of the church and many looked up to them as they are models to emulate.
Mr Daniel Obese, a representative of the participants, said being elected or appointed as a presbyter was by the grace of God and not by status or academic level and therefore called on his colleague presbyters to live exemplary lives worthy of emulation.
