Tamale, July 16, GNA – Brigadier General Moses Mohammed Aryee has assumed office as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) the Northern Command and Commander of the Six Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
Brigadier General Aryee, who until his appointment was the Commander of the Army Training Command of the GAF, took over from Brigadier General Francis Ofori, who served 20 months at the position, and has now been appointed the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.
A contingent of officers from the Northern Command held a change of command parade and pulling-out ceremony at the Command Headquarters at Nyohini Camp in Tamale on Monday in line with military custom to bid Brigadier General Ofori farewell from the Command.
Brigadier General Ofori, who delivered a speech as the outgoing GOC of the Northern Command, commended all stakeholders for collaborating with the Military to maintain peace in the northern part of the country.
He urged the Military to build public confidence not only by ensuring that citizens were law abiding but also providing empathy and support to the communities in which they operate.
He also advised the new GOC to work effectively and collectively with personnel at the Northern Command and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security in the northern part of the country.
Brigadier General Aryee called for effective collaboration and cooperation between the Military and the citizenry to help maintain peace and security within the area.
Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, commended the outgoing GOC for his efforts in helping to maintain peace in the region especially the resolution of the Dagbon conflict and challenged the new GOC to help put in place appropriate measures to help solve other outstanding conflicts in the region.
Meanwhile, Lamashe-Naa Ziblim Abdullai, Chief of Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale, conferred a chieftaincy title of Kpanman-Naa, (hard worker) on Brigadier General Ofori in recognition of his enormous efforts in helping to maintain peace in the region.
