Ashaiman, Dec 2, GNA - Ghanaians have been advised against putting all their financial burdens on assembly members.
Madam Evelyn Aikains, an aspiring Assembly woman for Mantseman Electoral Area in Ashaiman, who gave the advice, said the mandate of the Assembly Member was to lobby for development.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, she said residents were using the District Level Electioneering to demand financial support from aspirants adding that this had been the practice as some residents always expected assembly members to provide their needs.
Madam Aikains, who is an incumbent assembly member, disclosed that female aspirants were at a disadvantage but said she was unperturbed as according to her “women are best managers naturally” so she would soldier on.
She indicated that her leadership skills were evident in the work she did during her first term as assembly woman revealing that she was able to lobby for the installation of a transformer in the area.
She added that through efforts, the Assembly and other stakeholders provided for her electoral area streetlights, electrical poles, speed rumps, bridges, drainage system and a basketball court.
She further noted that since sanitation was one of her priorities, she mobilized the youth for communal labour at least every two months.
Madam Aikains therefore appealed to residents to vote for her to continue the good work she started.
