Kumasi, Dec. 16, GNA - A total 5,934 police officers and personnel from other security services - Prisons, Immigration and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) would be deployed to provide security protection at polling stations across the Ashanti Region in Tuesday's District Level Elections (DLEs).
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) David Agyemang Adjem, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, addressing a parade of the security personnel, charged them to discharge their duties responsibly, without showing bias or favoritism.
He said the election was a litmus test for their preparedness of the 2020 General Election and charged them to work towards the effective sustenance of law and order to ensure a peaceful poll.
ACP Adjem outlined the responsibilities of each personnel, stressing the need to ensure the safety of all election materials by guarding and escorting them from the constituency offices to the polling stations.
He told the security officers not to interfere with the actual administration of the elections, adding; “It is not your duty, yours has to do with maintaining law and order”.
He said it was not their responsibility to check any voter’s identity card and advised them to avoid any form of harassment when such cases were reported.
