Accra, Dec.17, GNA – Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has said her Ministry will continually work to provide the effective external linkages imperative for the achievement of the agenda of a Ghana Beyond Aid.
These would be done through Ghana’s diplomatic representation abroad, which comprises 53 diplomatic missions, two permanent missions to the United Nations and 11 consular posts, among others diplomatic engagements.
Madam Botchwey said these when she welcomed the President, with other members of the Executive, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Heads of Government Institutions and Agencies and other dignitaries to the Ministry’s Festival of Nine Lessons.
The Ministry, she said, was upbeat about the strong engagement availed them for the implementation of Ghana’s Foreign Policy goals, including the execution of the foreign economic objectives in support of national development.
She told the President: “It is in this respect that we are strengthened by your firm resolve to drive Ghana’s Africa policy towards a peaceful, more united, prosperous, stronger, and self-sustaining continent of African peoples.”
She commended the President for providing a stand-alone pillar under the Coordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policies (2017 - 2024) for Ghana’s role in international affairs.
The country, Madam Botwchey said, contributed to the decolonisation process across Africa and her Ministry was inspired by her contributions to the nation-building efforts of several African countries.
She also lauded the President for his support for the proposals of the Ministry in areas, such as the extension of Ghana’s diplomatic reach abroad through the opening of new missions and consular posts.
They were also happy about improvements in some of the conditions of service of officers abroad, and the modernisation drive of the Ministry to become a globally competitive Foreign Service.
The Ministry’s choir treated their guests to melodious African chorals and carols, awing them to applause and appreciation.
They were complemented by performances from some of the envoys, interspersed with lessons from the bible.
