Bakpa Avedo (VR), Dec. 23, GNA - Mr. Curtis-Shyne Aboetaka also known as “internet farmer” has been adjudged the Best Farmer in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.
A total of 13 other farmers also picked awards in various categories at the 35th Farmers’ Day celebration in Bakpa Avedo.
Mr. Aboetaka took home a tricycle, a pair of wellington boots, six cutlasses, one knapsack sprayer, six tins of tuna and a certificate of honour.
He is said to use the internet for information on new methods of farming and marketing of crops.
Mr. Dika Phillip, the first runner-up also took home a pair of wellington boots, four cutlasses, one knapsack sprayer, four tins of tuna and one table top refrigerator and a certificate of honour.
The other farmers who received awards in the various areas of cultivation in the District include; Mr Vorsa William, best poultry farmer, Madam Amade Victoria, best small ruminant farmer, Mr Agbaxoxo Elvis, best cattle farmer, Mr Kaka Yawotse, best rice farmer, Mr Zonu George best pineapple farmer, Mr Ahiadorme Ben Kwame, best cashew farmer.
The rest are; Mr Sedofia Ahama Thompson, best maize farmer, Madam Gladys Adrako, best cassava farmer, Madam Tsatey Xorlali, best pepper farmer, Mr Kufoalor Hayford, best Agric field worker, Mr Adzorzi Emmanuel, best youth in Agric, Madam Beatrice Anagonu, best physically challenged farmer.
They received items including table top refrigerators, pairs of wellington boots, cutlasses, knapsap sprayer and certificates.
The celebration was on the theme, “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture Towards Agribusiness Development” and it attracted many chiefs, school children, and civil and public workers.
Mr Ruben Adase, Central Tongu District Director of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, said the District supported farmers under the Government’s Planting for Food and Job Programme where 1165 maize farmers benefited from subsided fertilizer.
He said Agric officers also organized 52 workshops for farmers on new crops and congratulated the farmers for their achievement and promised that measures were in place to address all problems faced by farmers in the District.
