Kumasi, Dec. 24, GNA - The Most Reverend Professor Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Archbishop of the Internal Province of Ghana and Anglican Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese, has underscored the need for the church and other faith-based organisations to remain neutral in the country’s electoral processes.
He said Christians, particularly pastors, who were peacemakers and preached peace and unity, should not be seen wearing party colours, but uphold the church’s prophetic and advocacy roles in order to mediate peace in the upcoming national elections.
This was contained in a Christmas and New Year message issued to Ghanaians, through the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.
He said Ghana was at peace with itself and was respected among the comity of nations as a stable country and beacon of democracy.
It was therefore important for Ghanaians to jealously guard against any act that would seek to disturb the peace and unity of the country.
Bishop Yinkah Sarfo pointed out that, Ghana was important than any political party and reminded politicians to conduct themselves appropriately to maintain the peace and unity of the nation.
“Let us show the world that we understand elections. It is about elections-the use of the thumb and not war and violence”, he emphasized.
Bishop Yinkah Sarfo, said the church would continue to pray for the Electoral Commission (EC), the security agencies, political leaders and all other key stakeholders in the 2020 elections to ensure free, fair, transparent and incident free elections.
