Ghana midfielder Isaac Twum played a key role as IK Start made a quick return to the Norwegian topflight league.
The former Inter Allies defender climbed off the bench to help IK Start secure promotion despite their 4-3 defeat to Lillestrom.
Twum's introduction in the 71st minute sparked a spirited fight back from the Kristiasand side who were down by four goals in 60 minutes.
Martin Ramsland's hat-trick in the last 15 minutes ensured IK Start qualified to the topflight on away goal rule.
IK start won the first leg 2-1 at home before losing 4-3 to progress 5-5 on aggregate.
Twum made 27 appearances in the regular season before playing in the relegation play-offs.
IK Start are now back to the Elisterien league after just a season in the Norwegian First Division.
