Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston has admitted the Black Stars are in a difficult group ahead of the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The West African football heavyweights were drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama following Friday’s draw in Washington.
The Black Stars will open their World Cup account against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England on June 23 in Boston.
Ghana will wrap up their group games against 2018 finalists, Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
Speaking after the draw, Kingston, who is the head coach of Uganda youth national teams admitted Ghana are paired in a tough group, while cautioning the team not to underestimate Panama.
“Ghana is in a tough group. I will advise the Black Stars not underestimate Panama. Their qualification to the tournament was not just by fluke” he said.
Laryea then eulogized Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic, insisting their encounter with Ghana will be interesting.
“Croatia is a very good side. They have a very good coach, who is a friend of mine. He is mentoring me. It going to be interesting and I’m looking forward to that”
The 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, giving Africa a record nine automatic slots.
It will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarterfinals.
