According to Mr. Essel, it is prudent for food producers to 'bring their operation to compliance under the FDA once they are producing any food product in the country.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement session between Liberty Industries and their distributors and customers at the Best Western Plus hotel over the weekend, Mr. Essel said “One of the key things we at the FDA want to announce is that, if you are a producer of a food product in the country don’t hide yourself anywhere in your operations."
According to him: "Once you are producing food, it’s always proper that you bring your operations into compliance. All I am saying is that whatever you do that has to do with the production of food, you should make it a point to bring in the FDA so that that we can consent to it.”
He added that “Industries like Liberty Industries who want to go forward in their business brought their products to the FDA for certification before they went on to the market. They sought for the consent of the FDA and their product went through some assessment and we gave them worker’s authorization for the product, testifying that the product is safe for use. That is the way to go, you don’t have to hide.”
He reiterated that the FDA is not an enemy of any industry but rather the authority it was set up to support industry and players in the industry.
“We are not enemies of industry, we have been set up to support industry, and I work with the industrial support services so we provide technical support to industries,” he noted.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Liberty Industries, Nii Botswe Laryea II, appealed to distributors and customers to be on the look for fake ‘Kpoo Keke’ drinks on the market.
